Dental Hygiene or Periodontal Health

Gums that are red, swollen, and tender have periodontal disease. In our office, patients will undergo a through periodontal screening and will receive a high level of education about their gum health, how to make it better and how to maintain their gun health. If, based on examination, gum disease (Periodontal disease) is diagnosed, a different kind of cleaning called Scaling and Root Planning might be recommended (see below).  The Periodontal Health evaluation is performed at least twice a year in order to maintain excellent oral health care. To ensure that this level of health is maintained, we will help you establish a dental hygiene routine that will keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright.

Scaling and Root Planning will remove plaque and tartars bellow the gum line. This procedure may require Novocaine to reduce the amount of discomfort. We will clean this area with special instrument and technique. After this procedure the patient may require a special oral health routine to help maintain a healthy gum.  It is very important to notify your doctor and hygienist if you have bleeding during brushing.
